I want to upload a DVD to youtube, but it is too long, how do I cut it up?

Well uploading a DVD is illegal as it is copyright infringement. So we can't help on that type of scenario.

It isn't a copyright DVD, it is video of me being an idiot.
Would that be a video of you uploading an entire dvd to YouTube? Just kidding. Aren't there limits to what you can post? Is the intention that each part is playable on its own (which I'm sure is a requirement for YouTube)?

DVD, if you mean a proper dvd with menus, is mpeg2 which is not a great format for size. You should convert to an avi first (apps such as the freeware version of DVD to AVI). If you don't have any editing tools you can use something like Easy Video Splitter which allows you to split where you want or divide it up into so many parts.

Hmm, I think you should know that what formats are supported by YouTube uploading, and now the Youtube, and how long each video can be, the size...
This YouTube column might can give you some indication: http://www.ifunia.com/youtube-column/index.html Where covered the tips "The Best YouTube Video Format for Uploading" "How to Upload and Edit YouTube videos" "Prepare Video for YouTube uploading" and so on.

HTH :)

I checked on formats before responding - they support most formats. The general guide is here and formats here. If a multi-part video is being uploaded, it is easiest to join avi segments without loss (such as in VirtualDub, Direct Stream copy or format-specific joiners).

I downloaded the two sites you recommended, but the AVI conversion said output format was MPEG-1 is that avi? And it only did ten minutes. The DVD is 31 mins think it is a trial version or something. Anyone know a better converter to AVI which is better?
