Hi

First off, I know you are all thinking "what an idiot and not another windows 8 question". Unfortunately that is exactly the case! I was stupid in many ways!
I basically installed windows 8 preview with thinking if I didn't like it I could just uninstall it however I now realize that's not the case and I should have done it on a VHD... To make matters worse, I may have not created a recovery or back up or saved an image of windows 7 :/. yep what a dick!
so now I would like to go back to windows 7 but I am unable to do so.
I've tried resetting my laptop - oh its a HP Pavilion G62 - but that wont work. I've tried restarting it and all that. It also appears that windows 8 has over written my w7 os or I have deleted it by accident.
So if someone would be kind enough as to help me out (I will accept mockery in the process!) I would be greatfu.
Sorry, I suspect you've had to deal with a bunch of idiots like myself recently.

Thank you, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry if this is in the wrong section!

Do a factory restore with the recovery DVDs it may have come with or press F11 at startup just as you see the HP splash screen. That will restore the laptop back to how it was the day you got it.

The laptop didn't come with cd's, it was pre installed.
I've done the f11 thing and that dosnt work...
thanks.

Have you still got the manual for your laptop? If so, have a look through it and see if tsays anything about "HP factory restore" or "OS recovery". If you don't have it, download the manual from the HP website and have a look that way.

There should be some sort of way to restore the laptop. Do you have a product key for Windows 7 on the underside of the laptop? If so, you can download a legit Windows 7 ISO here http://www.mydigitallife.info/windo...links-ultimate-professional-and-home-premium/, burn the ISO to a DVD, then reinstall Windows 7 that way, using the genuine product key on the underside of your laptop to install and activate the OS. Make sure you download the correct edition of Windows 7. It should say what edition the key is for on the COA sticker which is where the key will be located.

Is there not a way I can do it with out spending money?

When I press F11, it says that a operating system cannot be located....
You do not have a restore partition if it says no is found. You can download like vista says, or if you want a direct restore, you will have to fork out the $ for shipping. If you call them they might send you one for free. Just explain what you have done and that you need a reset disk. won't hurt to try.

Jasper, have you changed the hard drive in this laptop? It seems odd that you don't have a recovery partition. That, or it was accidentally formatted when you installed Windows 8.

the G62 came with a factory restore partition, but it was ever so easy to screw it up. I do believe in his case that windows 8 wiped it out somehow though.

yeah I think I must have somehow deleted the original partitiom. Visakid, I have the genuine key on the underside, it says home premium OA... if that dosnt work I will ring hp and enquire about a disk reset.
Thansk everyone for your help!

do I have to burn the complete downloaded folder to the disk? casue the folder is like 3 gb and if I am correct in thinking, a disk can only hold 720 mb??

Yep burn the ISO you download to a DVD. Use software like ImgBurn to do this, it's free to download. :)

Well i managed to do it without a DVD so i now have windows 7 back... However I've encountered several problems :P
I think some drivers cease to exsist... I no longer have wireless and my resoloution is poor....
What have i cocked up this time :P

You need to go to HP's website on another computer, download all the drivers for your PC, and then copy them onto a USB drive, and then plug the USB drive into the HP and install all the drivers.
