i 've got a CPU which is i5 2400 3.10GHz Sandy bridge. My computer recently experience lots of stability problems, sudden power off, USB port detection problems, and hard drive is getting old, i've decided to replace all the hardware but the only component I don't know if I should replace as well is CPU. I could sell this used i5 2400 CPU in local market at a price that I can buy a fresh new i3 3220 or i3 3225. As far as I know i3 3220 and 3225 are Ivy bridge. I don't know, what do you think? if you were me, will you sell the now i5 2400 CPU to buy a fresh new i3 third generation?

Thanks for comments

Sounds like to me you have a failing PSU that you are throwing a system at. Have the PSU tested and replaced if need be.

Other than that, if you are still wanting to replace your parts, then keep the current one. going to Ivybridge would be a sidegrade.

would it be a downgrade if changing from i5 2400 sandy bridge to i3 3220 or i3 3225 ivy bridge?

Yes, your i5 is faster.

hi is it faster or MUCH faster than i3? should i keep this i5 2400 cpu? my computer has experienced lots of problems and i decided to replace all parts but the last and the only thing that hesitates me is the CPU. I could change from an used i5 2400 sandy bridge to a fresh new box set i3 ivy bridge without having to pay, is it stupid or wise? it is said that cpu rarely fails and could last for decades, usually a computer problem is not the cpu problem, but it is also said that a bad cpu could lead to sudden unreasonably power off which often happens to me.
