i5 4440 vs FX-8320 or otherwise

Probably just a new stepping in the Piledriver for the future. Will not see a new FX till they release a non APU (no GPU with L3) Steamroller for servers. My guess the desktop version will be the same socket as the APU at the time. Really though, I don't think AMD will ever release a new, what we see as a FX. They might go cheap and start calling the disabled GPU APU, like the now called Athlon 760K. Just change the name from Athlon to FX.

I really do miss the days of the FX-60. Back when AMD still had a name in the enthusiast market. I always dreamed of building an FX-60 platform ended up settling for an X2 Brisbane which gave me near the same performance with overclocking.

So OP, I see that you have a Gigabyte mobo so how old is it? They're one of the top brands. Your list looks good too.

I think the socket 1155 aren't going to die away so soon. They're still good stuff. Only problem is you don't have an OC-able board.

I think he wants a new motherboard. No point buying 1155 boards new now.

Well at the moment my motherboard is doing fine as it is but I think its starting to fail on me. I'd rather upgrade the CPU and motherboard in the one hit.
