You guys think the i5s/i7s will drop in price all that much when SandyBridge comes out or will they still remain expensive?

Only i was thinking if they did to upgrade to an I5 or even possibly an I7 but personally i cant see them dropping all that much, even the Q6600s are still going for £85-90 on Ebay and i only paid £160 when it was released :D...that was 2.5 years ago.

what you think?

They'll drop like 20$, but they won't move too much...just like last year, the i7 Extreme was out on NewEgg, but the Core 2 Quad Extreme was still more expensive than it.

I also doubt they will drop much, mostly because they still have the edge over AMD's offerings. Once AMD releases something actually competitive, the prices will fall.

^+1. If Intel has no incentive to lower their prices, then why would they? From this perspective, it might be nice if AMD pulls a fast one with Bulldozer. :)

I would wait till next year. With sandy bridge coming out and native USB 3.0 and SATA3 (unlike the crap they have out atm using PCI bus to limit your GPU) plus I think support for lightpeak or something similar will be out. So more bang for your buck. You wont see much performance difference as I myself have a Q6600 @ a humble 3.2ghz. My second video editing system runs a I5 (deep discount) and I can't tell a difference. I still max games on my C2Q so I am happy :)
Just my thought process...honestly though I wanna see how much Intel charges to overclock on the K series Sandy Bridge before I make any more Intel purchases :)

Also no doubt price will drop much if any at all upon release. I still see $240 for a Q9450 chip and that is a generation and 2 sockets behind :)
