i7 Laptop Question!?

I'm on vacation in the states right now and was almost ready to buy a new laptop today.

I saw a great HP Pavilion with an i7 cpu and everything was good for my purposes as far as specs and such but I decided to hold off and ask for help here.

Why is the i7 cpu clocked at only 1.6Ghz? its an i7 720QM.

Is the Q9000 machine I also saw better???

What do people recommend between these 2 cpus? and why?

Remember that 720QM supports powerful turbo mode which allow it to auto-overclock when not all cores are utilized. For example, it will run up to 2.8GHz when one core is used and 2.66GHz when two cores are used.
