IBM 120 GB (sometimes) seen in full...

Dear Forum!
A call from the largest country in Scandinavia:

My PIII 900 Mhz Siemens Scaleo using Win ME do in BIOS in full recognize this IC35L120AVVAO7 - HDD, as well as during the boot sequence in full = 120 GB.
BUT when back in ME I´m told that the drive just have 20,5 GB...

The manufacturer of the mobo, BioStar (M6VCG) does not offer a BIOS update, nor do Siemens.
The HDD has went trough FDisk and this "station" tells me that the drive is 120 GB large.

I would like some help please as I´m out of clues after hours of searching the I-net!

Kindest regards

.. fdisk? That's for 95/98 if I'm not mistaken... They only give you 7-8GB Max of HDD space with Large Disk Support enabled...

Hi there oscaryU1!
Thank´s a lot for your reply and time!
Is that so...?
I can´t say that I´ve a LOT of experience with the ME, but so far I´ve been able without any "popups or screens" to use FDisk.
I have to say/add the following:
Last late night I changed the HDD from the 120 GB to one IBM of 60 GB.
I assume that you can guess the following, right...?
The system in ALL aspects and on ALL levels recognized the HDD as of 60 GB (!) directly.
Maybe there IS a limit somewhere from the manufactuer of the mobo OR the BIOS that I don´t know of. What do all of you members think???
Kindest regards & thank´s in advance to all of you
Tony

Yes I think theres an limit. XP with SP1 or something could only get up to like 120-130GB... with ME it's probably smaller. I'm guessing also that maybe some of your space is unallocated..

oscaryu1!
Once again thank´s for a reply to my still unsolved one!
(Sorry about the delay but for some reason I wasn´t told by email that you have wrote a new one!)
I´m familar with what you are saying about XP and it´s limitations, but what I just can´t get out of my head is WHY my Siemens Scaleo sometimes say that the HDD is 120 GB and in one case just - at the very best - ~ 1/6 of that size...
Once again thank´s for your time!
Regards
Tony
