My problem is with an Ibm 600e, the keyboard sometimes does not work on the QWER and UIOP keys. The problem is intermitent and is sometimes fixed by restarting the laptop but not always does this fix the problem. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
I'd say the ribbon cable connecting to the motherboard from the Keyboard should be reinserted. That, or the keyboard is faulty all together. You'll have to contact IBM on that, tech support should walk you through the troubleshooting to finalize the problem. Is it still under warranty?
Yes, if you know how to access the ribbon cable underneath the keyboard, then it's worth a shot. Remove it and then reinsert it. If it doesn't work, mostlikely the keyboard needs to be replaced.
I would have to side more that the keyboard is bad. It is possible the cable.
of course the other option is to use a desktop key board and mouse with it
hmmm well I took the keyboard off and found that the cable was kinked pretty good and crushed, and after a little work and a piece of tap positioned just right it seems to be working for now. I dont know if the screen is getting caught when I close it or why it is crushed like that.
Assembly mistake I'd say. The ribbon should be layed flat with no problems, if it was kinked or crushed, it may have been a rushed job and wasn't seen when assembled. I'm glad it solved your problem.
