IBM lenovo, vista laptop

hey guys,
my IBM lenovo, vista laptop I purchased a few months ago is showing the hard drive 95% full. It's supposed to be a 120 GiG hard drive. There's no way I've filled it.
This is not right. Why would it do that ? Anyone ever see this? Is it easy for me to fix? Thanks for your insight.

it's system restore. especially if you installed and deleted really large apps. disable it unless you find yourself rolling back many times

also, perhaps there's a hidden recovery partition. this has the manufacturer's VISTA image. if you don't need it you can delete it.

I wouldn't do that... You may need it.

perhaps. but some people made a backup disk or backed up their image onto an online storage and prefer the extra hd space.

for my sony i wiped the contents of the hidden partition and replaced it with an acronis image of a fresh install as sony puts too much bloatware on their OS reinstall disk/partition.

about system restore - i never have any luck with it. the restored programs just doesn't work right for me

Hey Dznuts: if I try to do this myself then what exactly would I need to back up on say, a separate hard drive. I'm trying to figure out how big of an external hd I would need to purchase. (the vista is a 105gig).
Thanks for your help, appreciate it very much.

I have lenovo Y400, and using it now to post it comment. I do believe that your hard disk partition is not full assign. Check with your nearly computer service if you can do it.

ok so I restored it to factory and now have 91 free gigs out of 105. It does have a hidden partition that's where the image is. That's how I restored it without a disk. Now in order for this not to happen again I will be monitoring to see if the restore points back up program will start filling up the HD again, if so I will disable it.
hehe thanks all

Ok, so it's been a few days and I've already lost 8 gigs of space but when I check restore points it says there aren't any. So what gives? help?
Anybody?
