IBM R40e Laptop Upgrade!

xD I am new to this forum and I hope I enjoy my stay, I wanted to ask you if it was possible to put the latest gaming technology in a IBM R40e. xD I would love to see people's faces if this cpu could play Skyrim!

first thing, CPU is the Central Processing Unit. On your PC (what you intended to say), it is on the Left side center of the motherboard.

You will not be able to play skyrim on that laptop.

Upgrades: CPU: Should be able to upgrade to a P4m 2.6 GHz, assuming it is the original 130 process. Still wont meet skyrim specs. It requires Dual core 2GHz.
RAM: DDR 1GB max. You need a minimum of 2GB to run skyrim.
GPU: You are running a AGP 4x Mobility Raedon (probably a Raedon 9000 or 7000), this is not upgradeable. And does not meet skyrim specs.

I used to have a ThinkPad A31 (very much like this R40, in fact I had an R40 as well) and I upgraded the RAM to 1.5GB. You could infact upgrade the RAM on these ThinkPad R4x and A3x models to 2GB by using 2x 1GB DIMMs, the only reason why the internet says you can only upgrade to 1GB is because these laptops are old and at the time there were no 1GB DIMMs only, 512MB was the biggest single DIMM you could get.

So, yeah you can upgrade to 2GB RAM, but still you won't be able to upgrade the CPU to anything decent and the onboard graphics are pretty rubbish. My A31 had Radeon 7000 series graphics, they sucked. These ThinkPad laptops were definitely business-class machines and were never intended to be used as gaming platforms.

That is dependent on chipset support. When I used an A31m with a P3-800, I upgraded to 2GB, but it only used 1GB all the time. Even the BIOS didn't read more.

The AMD versions based on the same design would use more. And Lenovo support says that the BIOS is limited to 1GB of RAM on the R40e.
