Icons and taskbar disappear after a while

I dont know whats going on with my computer, but if I let it sit for a while (not sure how long) the icons and taskbar and start button will all dissapear, and I can get it back by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, but it never did it before. Anyone know the cause of this? Thanks

You should check to see if you have the taskbar set to auto-hide (right-click on the taskbar and select properties). If not, do the desktop icons dissapear too, if so then your explorer may be terminating, or it may just be a virus.
 
hey...yeah the icons are disppearing. Basically, everything goes away except my mouse, even if I have a window open, it will go away. Only after a while of inactivity, while im on the computer its fine. But it will basically remove all the icons, and the start menu, and task bar, but leave the wallpaper and the mouse. Then when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, it will all come back, even if I have had programs running they will come back also. Ill download the link when I get home from work, thanks

Maybe you have a screensaver that just shows your background without any of the other stuff? Also the screensaver could be set so that keystrokes and mouse movements don't effect it. Check under properties when you right the background. Let's start from the simplest solution and work our way up ;)
 
thanks, ill check out that virus program. I already have NOD32 running though. Also, I hvae my computer set to no screen saver, which its always been set to it, so we can rule that out. I tried to run the file checker, but it needed me to insert my disk which I did, and its a legit copy of windows, and it said it was the wrong disk...so that didnt work out. So, Im not real sure what the problem is. I also tried the taskbar plus program, but none of the solutions offered on that fit my problem. I dont have a problem pressing Crtl+Alt+Del every time to get on my computer, it takes 3 seconds. Im just worried somethings wrong. Thanks guys

i)Install Avast antivirus free
ii)Do a free register
iii)Update it
iiii)run a scan

2-
i)Download & install ad-aware (not the 2007 beta)
ii)Do an update
iii)Do a scan

3-
i)download hijakthis
ii)do a scan with log
iii)when scan has finished the log will appear
iiii)copy it on to this forum!

I have been running avast virus scan for a couple hours now...up to 480000 files, it found 1 trojan. I deleted it though, when it finishes, Im going to run antispyware, and hi-jack this just to be safe. Ill post the hi jack this log in this thread hopefully sometime tomorrow, thanks for all of your help

actually, I went into propoerties for the desktop, and clicked screen saver > Power, and it looked ok, so i clicked ok. Then it was set to turn the monitor off every 20 minutes, so i undid that and My icons have seemed to have gone away. Regaurdless of that, Im still taking some precautionary actions to make sure everythings ok. Again, thanks for your help, and I will post my hi-jack this log.

yeah that is checked...they were literally disappearing. I could watch my screen and after 10 or 15 minutes see them dissapear along with the taskbar. I left my desktop on all night, and they didnt disappera.
