Icons in Add/Remove Folder

Hi,

I have some icons still appearing in my add/remove folder. I uninstalled the program without using the add/remove simply because it did not allow me to. Anyway I know you can go into the registry and go to the uninstall folder and remove uninstall strings and that usually clears those icons, but that no longer exsists in my registry :\ How can I remove these useless icons from the add/remove folder? Is there another way?

Many Thanks

First you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and the reminder given to all new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

Sometimes you don't get everything leftover in the system registry. Right clicking on the items seen in the Start>Programs group to delete startup items there as well as making sure all processes are unloaded also helps. But when wanting all keys removed a good cleaner helps. A great freeware for this is RegCleaner found at http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm

When RegCleaner first opens up since it only creates a desktop shortcut and no entrys in the registry the main window show all programs installed. By going down the two columns you can loctate all keys for one program. The tools item seen on the explorer bar has a dropdown menu with a link there for the "registry cleanup" which opens another dropdown for the automatic cleaner. The "do them all" option does everything for you as far as finding and removing "orphans" and now invalid entries.

Thank you for the welcome. It still didnt remove those icons from the add/remove folder. Oh well its not a big deal really I am just a neat freak and hate stuff..icons hanging on mhy computer with no purpose lol Thanks though

Try this
Select Start > Run
In the Open: line type regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
The Add/Remove Programs list is built from the keys listed beneath the Uninstall folder.
Locate the key for the program that has been uninstalled, right click the key and click Delete.

I know about going into the registry and manually removing the uninstallstring but I also have Registry Mechanic which I ran after manualy deleting the program. It removed everything from the registry but kept the icons. The icons that are left behind look like the Windows Installer 3.1 Icon just to give you an example. Thanks again though

You didn't happen to try out any of those Vista theme downloads at all did you? Those can leave things behind when certain other HKEY_USER entries are made or altered. The reason for RegCleaner is that it has proven itself even in Vista as well as everything from 98 up. Besides a main window for manually removing specific keys it also has an automatic registry cleanup tool.
