Icore7 or better form music computer

The 2620 would be better. Though clocked lower, you have 50% more L1 cache, as well as 2 extra cores which will more than make up for the lower clock speed

idk about the cache difference, but if they scale properly then wouldn't the 4 be better? 4*3.6=14.4 while 6*2=12, so the performance would be better even with a six thread application, although idk if those are hyperthreaded or how that would affect the performance at that speed.

The cache difference will make a huge difference, much more than the clock speed difference will

Hi Please can some tell me if this Powersupply will work with the motherboard:

PSU - OCZ 850W ZX Series ATX PSU
Motherboard - Asus Z9PE-D8

Many thanks
Joe

I would question your diagnosis with the CPU being maxed out as that is a PCIe card and not going to saturate the bandwidth. You may find that audio processing is simply being cached due to slow hard drives which require extra processing. My first suggestion would be to try an SSD or RAM disk and install lot of RAM (32GB) with Windows 7 and see if that helps. As a guy that is in a band, uses Cbase and Protools, you don't need bugger all CPU if the throughput is balanced.

Another alternative is to overclock the CPU and see if that helps. I would try both before spending money on what is not a CPU intensive task. Video yes, audio, no.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

I had tried an SSD system and didn't help at all to be honest. I have built a 12 core xeon system with 32gb and it solved the issues straight away :)

Also the issue was VST related for CPU not actual audio recording
