IDE and SATA

Hello: Can I run a ide and a sata hard drive at the same time without causing any trouble, or mayhem to my system. I have a WD 800gb sata as my main drive and would like to add an old WD 80gb ide hard drive for a back up for my wife's pictures.

if you are going to use the ide drive as a file storage, there shouldnt be a problem, theres no operating system to anyway confuse windows, it will just see it as a storage drive.

There is no harm in doing that, just make sure that in the BIOS you set the drive with the OS as the first hard drive to boot from, otherwise it may try to boot from your IDE drive.
