When adding a new hard drive and cd rom ,do i have to put the hard drive on the middle connector of the cable and set it to MASTER and put the CD ROM on the end of the cable and set it to SLAVE or does it not matter where the SLAVE or MASTER devices are situated on the cable.

Thanks for the help! :)

its the other way round the one on the end of the cable is the master, and the middle is the slave

you'll have two ide connector blocks, i recommend somthing like

* Primary IDE: hard drive as Master Primary IDE:
* Secondary IDE: CD/DVD drive as Master

Users who want the full allotment of IDE components should connect the drives as follows:

* Primary IDE: hard drive 1 as Master
* Primary IDE: hard drive 2 as Slave
* Secondary IDE: CD/DVD drive 1 as Master
* Secondary IDE: CD/DVD drive 2 as Slave

Depending on the use of the machine its quite possibly much more useful to have the second HDD on Secondary channel :)
