IDE detection problem.

I recently built my first computer..

Foxconn NF4SK8AA Winfast mother board
450watt real power PS
Creative X-Fi sound card
geforce 6900 geforce video card
2x 512mb (1gb) RAM
AMd 3500+ 2.4ghz processor
160gb western digital OEM hard drive (master)
80bg western digital OEm hard drive (slave)
DVD/CD drive

I can turn on the PC and search through the bios but my computer can't find the drives. I've tried switching cords, changing jumper settings, removing the Slave drive, even typing in the data my self. But my bios aren’t finding any of my drives. Floppy, DVD/CD nor hard drives can be found. When the IDE cords are plugged into the drives there is no power (the hard drives don't spin, CD drive won't open) but when just my power cords are plugged in the drives run. I’ve been going at this for week trying to get the drives to simply boot but they won't. I've tried different hard drives that have worked in other computers and the drives still aren’t detected. I’ve gone through the Bios at least 100 times editing and switching things around to make this board work but to no avail. The IDE ports read nothing. users on other forums have come to the conclusion that the ports must be fried. Is now the right time to start looking for a new MoBo or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,
~Tom

I would have to agree with what you've read elsewhere... Definitely sounds like you have some bad IDE ports on the mobo.

yes the ports are probably fried. the question is why. it may also be that the IDE cable is backward, try flipping it. like if the cable is facing you, flip it so the cable is facing away from you. that was the prob with mine

If you haven't noticed there is a notch in some cables to stop you doing that. The ones that don't have it are really old.
