IDE on SLI/SATA Mobo?

I want to buy a new mobo that supports SATA and IDE.

But I don't want to buy a new SATA harddrive. Can I format my IDE drive, and use it as my one and only (primary) drive on the new SATA/IDE mobo?

What is the pro and con in this?

Absolutely, just keep in mind that with most new motherboards they only have one IDE channel, which means you can only use two IDE devices. If you already have an IDE hard drive with enough space for your needs, then there's no real reason to upgrade. SATA is faster and is a newer technology, so if you were to buy a new hard drive I would highly recommend getting a SATA drive.

Either way, If you used IDE for your hard drive you would need to buy an optical drive that's SATA since you won't have an IDE port for it

You could run a hard drive and an optical drive on the same IDE cable, although it's not recommended.
