IDE to SATA conversion not working

Hello guys,
I called up Dell on this one and they had no idea... So I have a new Dell p4 3.2 with 80gb sata drive. The Motherboard has 4 slots for new hard drives SATA0 (pirmary hd) SATA1, SATA2, SATA3. I purchased the ide to SATA converter from local electronics store. This little pc board plugs into the back of the ide hard drive plug in a small power cord and a large one, the SATA cord and then plug the SATA cord into SATA1. Instructions say to make sure jumper is set to master(SATA thing I guess). I turn on the computer and go into bios and enable the SATA port. The computer sees the hard drive in bios fine. When I start windows I get 50% of the time a hardware error bsod (which says contact vendor). But when windows does start the hard drive is not present, even in disk manager. Partition magic does not see it... The drive was working fine (is currently empty) in a regular IDE hookup situation. Any ideas?

Well I was told by dell that if I plugged it directly into a slave ide it would be laggy.Well i tried it anyway, worked fine but when I clicked on it in my computer it would slow down the computer A LOT. The clcik you hear which is about 1/2 of a second.. would last about 3 seconds and echo through the speakers. Anyway so I went and purchased the converter $30. Thought iw ould work as it said. So I cant exchange this IDE for a SATA. Maybe I can get someone to swap this 160gb ide for a SATA of a smaller size... Anyway, no more ideas?

-When I asked dell how to fix it, they said the largest drive I could have on my computer was 2gb. I almost died laughing. This is a brand new computer.

I Found the answer! WOOOHOOO

Aight guys this is so dumb/easy i slapped my self..

"Most SATA converters require a master jumper - jumper the drive as a single-drive master (on a WD, no jumper at all, or parked jumper; most other drives don't distinguish between single and dual drive masters)."

Removed jumper, plugged and it worked. WOOHOOOO
