IDE via Z77 z68?

will modern boards recognise old IDE drives, so I can retrieve old photos and use the drives as back upstorage?
 
they will recognize them if it has a IDE port. I don't think Z68 or Z77 carries it natively, you will probably need to get a IDE PCI controller card to do it, but they are not that expensive.
