Identifying ASUS and Intel motherboards

I am trying to find a good used lga775 socket motherboard and I found an ad on craigslist that has 2 motherboards. The only problem is he does not know what socket they are.

He told me the ASUS model # is P408XMX and has a Intel 2.6ghz pentium processor installed. So I assume this is not lga775. Am I correct on this?

He also has a Intel board and the model # is 289002326. Is there anyway to identify these 2 boards?

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing most likely they are both slot 478 boards. Asus board is most likely 478 while the other one most likely came from a dell system. If there is pictures of the board, you can tell the difference if its 478 or 775. Got pics?

No I do not have pics. I may call him again and try to get more information or might go look at them in person, lives pretty close and takes pics of them.

He should be able to tell me the exact model of the cpu, right? The only thing he told me about the cpu is that it is a Intel Pentium 2.6ghz.

If I contacted the manufacturer, would they be able to tell me what kind of boards these are going by the model #'s? I googled the model #'s and nothing came up.

He must have given you a bad model number cause nothing came up when I did a search for it either. All we need are pics and we can tell what socket they are or from what systems they were pulled from.

You would be correct... though I think the numbers are wrong. Closest I can come up with is P4V8X-MX which uses an Intel chipset, or P4S8X-MX which uses an SIS chipset. Both of which are socket 478 boards. However without the correct part numbers I can't confirm this.

Second one looks like a Dell assembly part number. Without knowing what system it was in or the correct MB number, as others have said, there would be no way to identify it.

Pentiums have been on quite a few platforms. That could be anything form an old northwood CPU to a fairly new E5300, which is a Wolfdale CPU on the 775 platform.
