idiot proof guide to cloning

I need to clone my hdd, and would appreciate if the members of this forum can point me towards such a guide that will allow me to clone a hdd. The disk I intend to clone to is brand new and unformatted. Using an xp machine. Thank you

What is the manufacturer of the drive? Their support website should have a program you can download, burn to a CD, and boot to that will clone the drive.

If the New Drive is Western Digital use their Data Life Guard tool. It is pretty intuitive.

For future reference, there is also a product called HDClone which works awesomely for me-- I use it to transfer the contents of my laptop drive to a larger one when upgrading.

I allows me to boot up the laptop with the new, larger drive without any problems and I can partition the extra space out for multiple-boot.
