Hey everyone,

I got an issue with a friend's old laptop here. Basically, the wireless internet was working one day and not the next. When you try to go to websites, it says that the page cannot be displayed. I checked all of the settings in TCP/IP and they were all fine. Apparently, she said that she took it to Best Buy (Yikes!) and they said that they could "tweak" settings for $40. I can eff around the thing for free lol. They also said she had tons of viruses. Could a virus cause this kind of thing? Thanks in advance!

Does your laptop have a switch to turn the wireless on and off? Check that, if that doesn't work uninstall and reinstall your wireless NIC drivers.

haha, if you took a brand new computer from somewhere else Best Buy would tell you it had viruses and they can clean and "tweak" it for you.

Anyways, is the wireless connecting to the network? Can you ping the router and another computer on the network? From what you said I assume you have no connection at all so there must be something going on with connecting to the wireless. Make sure you wireless nic is installed properly with the correct drivers.

Also can you actually see the SSID of the network you're trying to connect to?
