IE7 can't display the webpage error when connecting to FTP

I'm trying to connect to an FTP site. I've never done this before but from what I Googled, it should be as simple as putting in the address ftp://ftp.xxx.com/
When I do this, I get the message that IE can't display the webpage.
Seems some stuff I googled implied there might be issues with IE7 and FTP but no solutions and MS.com shows just typing in the address.

Any ideas? I'm pretty ignorant on this one...

odd, are you sure it's not ftp://xx.xx.com , i don't think you should put the ftp again in the address. if i want to ftp into my file server right now i'd do "ftp://ipaddress" or "ftp://servername"
are you sure every info is correct ?
