IE7 problems

Hi, i have Windows XP SP2 and i have recently been having a problem with IE7 where whenever I open it up it says its on my homepage but the page is just white. then when i would try another URL, it would say "URL 'http://www.whateveriputin.com' is not available." so then i decided to try reinstalling it. But now i can't get it to reinstall. It will let me start the installation and it gets to "Downloading Updates for Windows Internet Explorer 7..." but then it wont ever go past that. i have left it there for hours and when i came back its still on that part so i can never really get it to install. Thanks in advance for all help
 
ok i managed to figure out how to get it to install but i am still getting the blank page thing. My internet is definitely not down because tried using firefox and it works fine. I was thinking it may be caused by a virus but i scanned with mcafee and it didnt detect anything. Could it be that i need an update for IE7?

try if an update will work
 
Sounds like IE is infected! How did you uninstall IE? You shouldnt be able to as it is integrated in windows.
 
IE 7 is not infected while an MS update is now suspect! For the first time since IE 7 was first out in beta it refuses to replace IE 6 even on a freshly reformatted drive with a clean install of Windows seen. I am currently working with an MS beta tester to see why this is happening since IE 7 is no longer an option but an update for XP.
 
I would try resetting IE7 first. On the advanced tab in Tools > Options there's a reset button to reset the browser to defaults. Restart your browser when it's finished.

The next thing would be to reset your Winsock. Use the WinsockXP fix which you can find on Google. That will clear the resolver cache, etc.
 
You might roll things back to IE 6 in order to see IE 7 reinstalled again. If something got corrupted that would be a better way of seeing IE 7 go on fresh rather then trying to repair the current installation.
