IE7 w/VISTA issues

I checked back a ways and couldnt find a thread on this, so if this has been discussed please forgive me. My problem is that on some machines I cant type, for instance, "google.com". I must use "www.google.com" and on others I simply cannot get on the internet even though the VISTA internet connectivity test thingy can access microsofts site and Firefox works fine(fortunately I had loaded it earlier for my own use). I wouldn't care so much but I was fixing it for a friend who doesnt like the idea of changing.

Never had this with XP w/ IE7 or IE6 but not much exp. with IE7 so idk. Please fill me in on what I need to know, fairly familiar with computers just not sure which settings are doing this. Tried resetting to defaults and deleting toolbars but no luck.

Running Trend PC-Cillin as well.

you can set it up, it's i function called auto completing or so... i'm not in windows now so i can't tell you more...

Thanks man, I will check that one out.

As far as it not working at a even though Firefox does I still find that annoying, on some machines even with the www at the front
