Hello ! can anyone tell this gumby how I can stop IE8 from blocking any attempt I make at clicking on a PDF file within search engine results or any website. Whenever I click on such a link, the toolbar flashes and says it's blocked it. So I select the option it gives me of 'download file anyway' and it clears my screen completely, including all my search engine results!!! 
I've tried : Tools> Internet Options> Security> Internet> Custom level and tried every option, and then the opposite again, within ActiveX Controls... which is what I think is causing the issue. Still no joy.
Aside from throwing this laptop in the bin, does anyone have any suggestions? thanks.
