As heyman said, thats a workstation card and IS NOT a gaming card. No one knows how much the R600 cards will cost, but they wont be more then that. Even the 8800GTX only costs around $550 now.

does anyone actually know what these $2-3k cards are for?

I realize they're for corporate 'always on' multiscreen systems, but what on earth about it warrants the pricetag?

Are they for video editing? Or just a super-duty video card of some sort that's really heat tolerant, and can run 100% indefinitely?

Just curious.

They are much better at rendering in CAD, video production studios, and several other workstation type environments. As for the large pricetag, I dont really know.

ATI R600: New PC Graphics Chip Monster kills nVidia GeForce

The new ATI R600 chip for PC, developed on top of the XBOX360 Chip, is released on January 22nd, 2007. The MSRP for the United States is $630.00.

Current benchmarks show a major advantage over nVidia's current flagship GeForce 8800 GTX and ATI's in-house competitor X1950 XTX CrossFire.

The R600 chip supports Shader Model 4.0 and the upcoming DirectX 10, the new API to be released as a part of Windows Vista.

god, i guess i better wait to buy a motherboard until ATI throws down their hand

crossfire motherboards are so much more expensive than SLI's, tho

i might go Nvidia anyways

more for less, tho

they're only 8x capable in crossfire

should've been more specific

will there be a dual 16x enabled crossfire mobo?

or is 8x just the way xfire works?
