If I use memory that has speeds not supported by my processor

will that be bad for the processor? such as overheating/other issues?
I have an Amd athlon 64 am2 and i recent bought 1066mhz memory, but i didnt know that the am2 version of the athlon 64 is limited to 667mhz
so if i use the memory anyway, will the motherboard just down clock the speed or will it over work the processor?

The motherboard determines what memory is supported, not the processor.

i know that, but i mean in speed. some processors are compatable with motherboards that are compatable with memory that have higher Mhz than others, but the processor sometimes is not. the athlon 64 am2 for instance supports up to 667ghz but the memory i purchased is an 1066ghz, that cant work can it?

Usually when you get memory that isn't supported, it will just downclock to the motherboards supported speed. But sometimes it doesn't work so easily, again depends on the motherboard and how picky it is with memory.
