if im gona buy a motherboard should it be PCI-EXPRESS

im gona upgrade my computer. Want to get an AMD 64 chipset, but realised that my motherboard doesnt support it. So now im gona buy a new motherboard, shud i look for 1 that is pci express or shud i just get 1 that is amd 64 compatible. Im alos looking to buy a new graphics card and RAM, wud pci -express increase the performance a lot???

How easy is it switching motherboards, do i simply pulg everything new and old into it??

well the performance increase of pci-e at the moment is not huge, but there is more overhead for development. Since your going for a new graphics card anyway then you should opt for the pci-e to help future proof yourself

Do you know what socket you want?

I would get a motherbored that supprts that A64 and PCI-E if your getting a new card.

Also changed a motherboard isn't too hard, just take out the old and put in the new, sometimes the cables are in differen't places so you might have to look in your manual though, and MAKE SURE YOUR GROUNDED or you will destroy all of your parts.

The motherboard can be the hardest thing to put in and it also could be the easiest. The room you work in should be static-free and dust-free (this is not necessary because I installed mine in my room while sitting on my carpeted floor :o ) . Make sure the Case you put it in supports your mobo size. Most newer cases support multiple sizes. PCI Express will eventually overtake AGP completely and since PCI-E boards aren't much more expensive than AGP boards, it is advisable. You should probably get a socket 939 Athlon 64 and get a socket 939 board because you have more room to upgrade in the future. Also, socket 939 supports Dual-Channel memory which can make for a nice performance gain.

By upgrading do you mean "essentially buying a new one"?

The performance difference in the BUSes isnt that real-world important but PCIE is definitively superior :)

Easy is a relative statement .. i'd say, if you're patient and do things carefully .. it's more than doable

Do you know what socket you want?
While S940 and S754 are options, they'd be mostly poor choices to S939

The motherboard can be the hardest thing to put in and it also could be the easiest
Bingo ... depends all on the case :)

Also, socket 939 supports Dual-Channel memory which can make for a nice performance gain.
True S939 does support dual-channel memory but its not an earth-shattering difference (since the majority of the benifits come from an on-die memory controller)

intell 3200+
1. There are easier ways to jack the post-count
2. There's no such chip.

Here's a straightforward mobo that's affordable MSI K8N Neo4/SLI @ 125USD
Im in uk. Ive now decided to up my budget, its gona take me 2 months to get everything. Im now gona get a motherboard bundle with something along the lines of:
A pci-express SLi motherboard - like the one u showed me
1 gig of ram
AMD 64 processor
That will cost me around 300-400 pounds
then the next month wen i get paid ill get a geforce 7800.
That will give me a pretty good setup right??

I know. I dont mean litteraly buy from Newegg cuz im aware they dont ship to UK. I use the links as a general guide :)

That will give me a pretty good setup right??
That it will be. Although I'd argue if you dont intend to do SLI then something like this would be a better deal
