If this is true do I still need an anti virus?

A plain and simple YES. Running without an antivirus program is asking for issues. I don't care what windows operating system you are running.

There is a whole lot of truth in this part of the article:
Researchers attribute the lower rate of infection in 64-bit Windows 7 machines because the users are probably more tech savvy than those using the 32-bit version or earlier operating systems.

The level of security completely depends on your knowledge about the security no matter WHAT operating system it is.

If you believe that Windows 7 cannot be so easily infected by viruses, give me 24 hours and I will make you a virus which is going to destroy your entire OS completely.

So short and simple: YES USE THE ANTIVIRUS.

New viruses are made every day and most of them already work on Windows 7.Windows 7 security will become bad as it is in older operating systems 1 year from now.Hackers do not wait :D

Cheers!

Antivirus - ALWAYS

Also bear in mind that your antivirus program is only as good as the updates. If you updated yesterday, someone has already made malware today that can get around yesterday's updates. Your antivirus program can't protect you from the defintions it doesn't know about. Always have antivirus and always keep it updated.
