...AMD motherboard would you suggest? I want to learn but I am beginning at the beginning. I don't need all the bells and whistles because I wouldn't know what to do with them anyway! I'm looking for functionality, reliability, and stability. Thanks.

Well, what CPU socket do you need? And are you going to be using AGP or PCI-E?

DFI LanParty UT nF4-D is an excellent board. But if you have less than $100 you can get the DFI nF4 Ultra-Infinity which overclocks well too.
