I'm an idiot who doesn't know what to buy

I have a Thinkpad T60 and I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. Currently I have two sticks of 512MB and apparently the maximum amount I can have is 3GB. I found that the type of RAM I need is SO DIMM 200-pin DDR2 667 MHz PC2-5300.

My question is this: Am I better off getting 2x1GB sticks or buying 1x2GB stick and leaving one of my 512mb sticks in? I really don't want to buy a 2GB and a 1GB.

So, THIS or THIS + a 512mb stick

Any opinions on whether Kingston or Corsair is better also welcome.

Get 2 x 2Gb.

If you have XP, the RAM that is usable is 3Gb.

So rather go for 2 x 2Gb...

That was my thinking, I just wasn't sure if having such uneven amounts was something to be concerned about.

EDIT: The only downside of having the uneven amount seems that it won't be Dual Channel? Does that sound right? But, I am also finding that this only has a very limited effect on performance, so the question is, does having 512MB more RAM outweigh having a Dual Channel setup of 2x1GB?

That's a good question. What I think it comes down to is will the extra speed of having dual channel out weigh the ability to have more programs running at once with the extra 512mb. If you don't find yourself multitasking much than the dual channel would be better. But if you are the kind of person that has 4 of 5 internet pages open while listening to music and writing a essay or photo editing than the extra ram might be better.

I definitely do a lot of multitasking, I'm going with the 2gb, thanks a lot.
