Hey people i am a newbie here

I just bought a computer
it has windows 98 installed

how do i delete all of the old files and make this thing fresh for me

i have no boot cd , i don't have anything but this
tower full of stuff i don''t want

some advice would be good

i want to get rid of the lot
it has 256mb ram and has amd internals , (bonus)

how hard would it be for me to get a copy of xp (easy i think) ?
clear 98 and install

but first how do i completely remove 98 , then most important if maybe i can get windows xp (what source ?) how do i install

cheers

Advise: Dont get a COPY of ANY copyrighted programs, or discuss it here...

download a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com i like the win98 SE one..

Tell your Bios to boot from a: drive, then cd then HD..

Load the boot disk.

When the a: come up type "fdisk" follow instructions to delete the logical drive, then create a new one.

Restart pc, and when you get to the A: again type "format c:" follow prompts..

Restart pc take and when it gets back to the a:/ type "d:" or whatever drive the cd is loaded on..

ex. d:

then change directories to the i386 folder

ex. "cd d:\i386" and then d:\i386\ntldr

this should boot the cd.

im tired, after 14hrs work... so if there is an error plz let us know people! im not a dos pro, but this is the way I do it. :)

if you baught windows xp it would format your hdd and do a fresh install the only problem would be the age of the pc 256ram would only just be enough ram to run windows xp you would need more ram your ram is probably sdram which ruins at half the speed of the cheapest ddr ram (sdram 133mhz/ddr 266mhz)
