I'm having some issues with a new RAM stick

I recently bought a new 8Gb ddr3 SO-DIMM ram stick to replace my 2Gb Ram stick, my laptop ships with 6Gbs of memory intalled, a 2Gb stick and a 4Gb stick, it is advertized as upgradeable, I changed the 2 Gb stick for the 8Gb stick and immediately went to the BIOS, it only read 4Gb of memory, I then checked both RAM slots, using the 2Gb, 4Gb and 8Gb in each slot and in every combination, the slots seemed to be fine, and the coputer always read the 2 old sticks, but never detected the new one, furthermore, when the 8Gb stick was in, the machine didnt boot at all; of course I assumed the stick simply didnt work, but when I removed it it seemed hot... so I thought maybe it was being used but not showing up for some reason, I then checked with CPU-Z, and for whatever reason, CPU-Z does detect the 8Gb stick, if noticed all the changes and all the combinations (10Gb 12Gb 6GB etc.), so now I'm not entirely sure the stick is the problem, do you know anything about this? Is there some way to fix it?

some extra information just in case: when I first used the new RAM stick my coputer was running windows 8.1, I then updatd to windows 10, it didn't solve the problem. (CPU-Z still detects the RAM)

Is it DDR3 or DDR3L.. lenovos are notorious for compatibility quirks.

Even if the chip isn't bad, I'd return it an buy a proper kit from Kingston, G-Skill, Crucial..etc.

EDIT: Quick glance at Newegg,,,.Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, G-Skill all offer 16GB kit DDR3/DDR3L 2x8GB for $55-$60 usd..

His Lenovo came with 6gb's factory installed, I don't think Lenovo's stupid enough to only ship it with 32 bit.

He didn't mention what bit OS he's running though, but he did say his BIOS is only showing 4GB but CPU-Z sees 8. Which is odd...

I agree that it would be bizarre for them to use a 32-bit from the factory with more than 4gb..but who knows

It is strange.. something isn't quite right

Alright, I checked, it's a 64 bit system, also, the bios does show 6Gb when the 6Gb are in, it just doesn't detect the 8Gb stick. Is there any more information you need to help me solve this?
