Im looking for a good desktop gaming computer

Mu Budget is probably 800-1000$

I have no idea how to build my own so an off the shelf computer, or a custom build one would be nice.

I found 2 that im looking at, from what I see here are the specs

Intel Core i5 2320 3.0 GHz, Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64 Bit, 1GB Radeon HD 6770 graphics card, 8GB DDR3, 1TB 7200rpm HDD this one is 745$

Intel Core i7 2600 3.4 GHz, Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64 Bit, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics card, 8GB DDR3, 1TB 7200rpm HDD, USB 3.0 and this one is 1000$

Tbh, both deals are horrible. For one, the second build you posted could fit in a Radeon 6950, which is MUCH MUCH faster than the 550ti. It could also fit in an i5-2500k.

What games are you going to play? How serious about gaming are you? Do you want to play games in ultra mode?

Games like BF3, Fallout 3, Left for Dead, Dawn of War II all play remarkably better with i7 2600K If you want to play them at a resolution than 1280x1024 you need at least GTX 580.

Crysis, world of war craft, star craft, Need for speed the run (not the best game for comparison sake), you will be better off with the i5. Need for speed uses the same engine as Battle Field 3 but its such a short game, and the FPS are locked at 30. BF3 is a multi threaded game so if you plan on playing it a lot its worth the extra $$ for the i7.
