I'm lost

My knowledge of hardware is poor. I have a AsRock K7VM2 R3.0 mother board with a Integrated ProSavarage8 3DGraphic thing (chipset?)

I want to upgrade my graphic card but don't know what will fit the board. It has 1 x AGP (4x/2x) and 2 PCI slots.

Can any one recommend a card & what i do with the integrated chip to disable it?

Any help would be appreciated. Al. :)

what processor do you have, and how much RAM? (if you know that, it would be very helpfull, then people could look for a nice card that would suit the system, no need putting an extremely strong card into a fairly slow system (dont take offense of that please ) )
anyhow,.. seeing as you have a K7 with 2x/4x AGP... i gues you have a Thunderbird or a Palomino (or ofc a Duron, wich is a stripped down version from either of those 2 )
for that,... i would suggest a GeForce 6200 on AGP :o I had one of those in my 1400+ Thunderbird with 1Gb SDRAM pc, and it worked perfectly.
also, that system was pretty balanced with that card.

Its pretty cheap, doesnt consume much power, and would suit the pc (I think,.. but im not sure, since its only a guess what pc you have atm =) )

as for disabling onboard video,.. that is done in the bios (the screen you get into when you pres del during the startup (usually))

Yea with a older socket A board with a 2X-4X slot I would go with that or might even a plain 6600 or something like a ATI 9600 or 9800. Anything over that would be kinda of a overkill for the board! Plus a waste of money because if you upgrade the board later, more than likley it will have PCIe

Cheers for that. I have an Athlon XP 2200 (1.8ghz) with 768mb of ram (i think that's how much, i'm on work PC at the mo).

I just bought a tft screen which likes to run on 1280 x 1024 res. Since then my pc has slowed down a fair bit. Not sure if the system is struggling to keep up with the demand so thought i'd try a better card.

get a 6200 or a 6600 :) that should be great for that system :o
(any idea about what Powersupplie it has? how many watt)

Ermm, no i would have to check later. It was a budget PC a few years ago, it does the job but has limited upgrade ability. I will check out the cards mentioned and get one sorted.

Thanks for your help!
