imac free software question

Hello all, my bro bought a imac and asked me if there is any free software he can use to open up .doc files (MS Word text docs, etc...) that he can download and use for free?

If not whats the best/cheapest one he can get?

OpenOffice (free) is multi-platform, I would think they have Mac version of it, though I'm not sure.

EDIT: At least according to Wikipedia there's a Mac version of OpenOffice. It will do teh job good.

For freeware he can look to OpenOffice but tell him to look at getting the iWork suite... iWork is probably the best, of course it's not a total Word knock-off and it will take a little time to learn - this is what frustrates most ppl.
