Imac good for rendering?

Would a imac be a good choice for using a program such as maya? I need to buy a computer of some sort to do game art and design on..

really, you know this because...?

I run Maya 8.5 on my Macbook Pro C2D 2.16Ghz 2gig of ram and the basic things I do run fine. It all depends on the load you put on the machine. Having multiple machines and farming out the rendering can be done with mentalray which is bundled with Maya, but you are most likely using the PE edition that is free right?

I know that because I love to read stuff on the Internet (I'm an information sponge)

If he rendering images then the more computers the better
