Imac HDD upgrade

I have a G3 Imac 400mhz/256mb/DVD/10.2gb
i want to upgrade the HDD. i have installed a working pull from a pc (40gb) but it is not recognised in setup (OSX). the drive is not blank and possibly still in NTFS format. what should i do to prepare the drive?
 
ok i figured it out...
no drive was showing up in the OSX installation.
had to insert the OS9 install disc and go into 'utilities' and then disk or drive setup. needed to create a macOS partition. then initialize it.
restart the system with OSX install. now a drive appears that can be installed to. all is good.
problem> no macOS partition.
