Hey guys

Is there a program that i could create image file from some files on my hard disk?

Most programs like CloneCD or Alcohol 120% creates image from a cd/dvd.
I have some files on my hard drive that sometimes i need to make an image from them and put them in a virtual drive as a CD to check how they work if they were on a CD.

is there any program let me create such image file from hard disk files? (not a drive)

One form of image you can create from files stored on a drive is called ISO. With an iso image you can actually run those on a virtual drive and edit at any time to add or subtract files. The images created can also be burned to disk and made bootable depending on the type(s) of files.

There are several iso programs often retail with some freewares available. The LC ISO Creator is free but apparently not Vista ready being suitble for Windows 2000/NT/XP. http://lc-iso-creator.en.softonic.com/

ISO Maker is another free tool for creating images from files stored on the drive and easily seeing them burned to disk. http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/ISO-Maker.shtml

MagicISO however is one offering a full featured retail version as a trial download. http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-overview.htm

i think nero ultra does this also. then again it might just extract them.
I have and use ISO Commander. ive tried them all and to me this was the easiest proggy to use.

Try this freeware. Imgburn. there is an option for files or folders.

I've heard of that one but never used it. The one question to ask here would be which version of Windows are you running there.

Most of the freewares will mainly be XP orientated. Some should still work in Vista however. Deep Burner just happens to be not only one for seeing Linux iso images burned to disk for live distros but also has an iso creation feature as well as being able to create bootable cd-rs.

The guide for that is seen here http://www.deepburner.com/help/index.html with the main download page at http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download

The latest and updated burning program that will create iso images as well is StarBurn that is quite Vista ready. A full version is also available as well as the freebie. http://www.binarymagic.com/free_help.html

Thanks a lot guys.

@PC eye : Thanks for the inormation, I didn't know what they are called, knowing they are iso really helped. Your first link is a simple program that's gets an image from a drive.
(If i'm not wrong). Shame the second is trial.

@tremmor : Didn't ever think that a program for such purpose can be this much user-friendly.

Thanks again both :)

The iso image isn't the only type of disk image. But you will find quite a bit for this type since it is commonly used. The live Linux distros you burn to a cd-r are iso there.

The ImgBurn version now seen should work well for you then. The good thing seen there is blu-ray as well as Vista readiness and can be set to alert you to updated versions that are released.
