Imposters on Instagram

So there is a verified account on Instagram that I follow. I received a few text messages from this person. At first I thought nothing of it but soon I became suspicious . Why would a "famous" person" send me a text message ? Could someone have hacked into this person's account and it is an imposter pretending to be this person ? Then I sent a text message asking how I could be certain that it was really her and not someone impersonating her ? So this "person" sent back a text saying that I hurt her feelings by doubting her and to not text her if I have doubts about her. So any thoughts on this ?

The account is real because it is verified by Instagram, I am only questioning the text messages as being fake . The title is wrong, I shouldn't have said imposters on instagram because the account is real, it's the text messages that I feel are fake.

It happens on all the so called "social media" sites including forums. I do use technical forums such as this one and others to do with my boating hobby. I do not use any of the "social media" web sites apart from Facebook and I only use that because my family do not live near me and they have decided to use FB as a means of communication. Personally I prefer the phone or email although both of those can be hacked.

Social media is rife with this sort of crap. I just got done deleting Facebook as it's turned into nothing but shit. InstaBS is owned by FacePuke, so there you go. The only social networking account I have is Twitter. And at that it's lame.

And I'm here to tell you that the Facebook App drains your battery. After I disabled the App (can't uninstall, total BS) my battery life is exceptional. I suppose it might be the same for Instagram as well. No trouble with Twitter.

I never was into to social media besides forums and discord, but I do know on the internet their are tons of phonies and hackers. I would assume large social media sites would be a huge target to hackers, so it's definitely a possibility.
