In a bit of a pickle

I've had a Gateway G20 since 2004. It came with XP media center edition. I've upgraded it along the way with a new graphics card and extra memory.

The computer crashed about a year and a half ago and because I've been away at college with a laptop, I haven't messed with it much. Recently I decided to try and fix it. I thought it was the power supply so I ordered a new one with more wattage and soon after noticed a few nodes on the graphics card were blown. I recently bought a new graphics card and the system will actually load up to the "Windows XP" loading screen. After that, it's a blank screen.

I've tried to figure out what the problem was and on the debut screen, I get this message:

multi(0) disk read error with a bunch of things in commas. There's about 20 lines of this down the screen. I restarted the comp again and held down F8 to get the prompt screen where I chose the directory option. It gets me to a new message:

Checking C:
The volume is clean.
Windows has finished checking the disk

Then I can't go past that. I can't type or anything. I restarted with no luck. Same getting to Windows "XP" loading screen.

What should I do? I can't find my backup XP media center disc.

I would still say that you have a bad hard drive. Not sure if gateway would still sell recovery cd's for that model or not.

I suppose getting a new HDD is my last option. I replaced the graphics card and power supply. The only problem is I have no Windows CD.
