In cd problems

My hard disk is partitioned and I have 2 installations of Windows XP pro. My dvd writer worked perfectly with INcd on both partitions. I.e. I could use my re writable dvds as a separate disk: write files to it as a separate drive.

I have been using my machine regularly, and I now find that Incd no longer works on my main partition. Each attempt to write to a rewritable drive fails.
I have tried uninstalling nero and incd and reinstalling - but no joy. I am using nero 6 and incd version 4.3.20.1

However, when I use the second installation, I am able to use incd and the dvd drive perfectly, therefore ruling out hardware failure.

I do not wish to go through reformatting my main partition and re installing all my software. Could anyone advise me as what may have gone wrong with my installation ?

Any suggestions willbe appreciated - Thanks - sunpush

which ones ? I cant think. The drive is a pioneer DVR-107D for which I dont install a special driver. They system auto recognises.

right, it's supposed to autoplay the cd drive, I don't know if the burning capabilities are that way though, but then again you did reinstall the burning programs, and those should include anthing you need, does nero work on the main partition, or are the installations different versions?

Unfortunately, or is it fortunately? I have a separate nero installing on my other partition. So I guess all the installation files are different. As I mentioned before, that installation works perfectly.

I guess it is looking more and more like I may have to re-install but I shall try and delay that as long as possible.

If any thought or suggestion comes to mind, please do advise. Many thanks for trying.
