In need of a new computer

Me and my sister have both started important years at school, so it is important that we can get on the computer for homework, but it is hard for us to manage to get enough time on, as we both need it so often. So with Christmas approaching, I decided that this would be a good time to buy myself a new computer, but I have no idea what I need to do.

I would like to be able to do all the basic things, as well as being able to use the computer for gaming and graphics.

I will be starting this computer from nothing, so I will need to be able to buy all the parts from the £600 (around $1100-1150) I have gathered.

Do you want to buy prebuilt, or build yourself? You'll be able to save a significant amount of money by building yourself...

Since you seemed to imply that you would like to buy parts to build for yourself....there are loads of threads on this topic, check the search for more specific builds, but here are a few recomendations:
