In store for a new laptop..any suggestions?

I'm looking to get a new laptop for Christmas. Figured some of you here may be able to help and have some suggestions; thanks if so.

I was planning to get a Core i5. This is assuming the i5 overall performs better than the i3...good assumption?

Looking for something with atleast 640gb hdd.
Probably 6gb of RAM - 4 at the least.
HDMI port.
Integrated graphics is fine.

I was set on Dell or HP. Any suggestions here on one over the other? Or another make?

$700 max - preferably around the $600 range.

And lastly, what does everyone think about refurbished items?

Yeah suggest 600-700$ i will get the same with 1000$ because of my country's stupid stores

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I rarely ever play games so don't want to spend more on a better GPU.

I do like the Asus though. I'll have to research them a bit, as I've never heard opinions about them.

Any opinions from you guys on Asus?

Asus is one of the top Laptop manufacture both in quality build and customer service. I have yet to hear any complain in this forum.
