Incompatibility Problems when upgrading to Windows 7?!!

So I have a dell inspiron on Vista, and I am trying to upgrade to windows 7. I have the installation disks. I followed the instructions and put the "upgrade assistant" disk in first. My computer recognizes it, and then it comes up, scans my computer, and then it says "Dell Wireless WLAN card utility is incompatible, may we remove it?" I clicked yes, and then it comes up with a messaging saying something along the lines of "Dell Wireless WLAN card utility could not be removed. Please uninstall it manually and restart the Upgrade assistant." Now I tried to uninstall it manually through Control Panel-add or remove programs. However, since it is of Dell Inc. publishing, my computer WILL NOT LET ME UNINSTALL IT, nor will the upgrade assistant let me continue until it is uninstalled. I tried to skip the upgrade assistant and put in the orange disk that came with it, and I got a message saying "Error: Please do not put this disk in until prompted to by the upgrade assistant.".... So how am I suppose to get Windows 7, when that stupid utility thing must be removed but it cant be? Please help me!

you should try booting with both of the disks and see if that gets around it. you should back up your data anyway but in this case make sure you do. if there is an option on the assistant to delete everything or do a clean install do it instead, it will remove all programs and files though, which is where the backup would come in.

as an extremely last resort you could install an Ubuntu OS (http://www.ubuntu.com/) and install windows 7 from there. but as i said this is an extremely last resort and try everything else first and look for other answers.
theres nothing wrong with ubuntu i just don't know how it would handle a windows install.
