Incorrect number of files reported in Folder Properties???

I think this just started as I pay attention to this stuff alot.
When I look in the properties of some file folder it shows an incorrect amount of files.
For example, a folder with two mp3 file shows seven in the properties and a folder with fifteen jpegs claims sixteen files.

This is an old windows xp laptop, I want to replace it with a new windows 10 laptop soon.
The thing is I have large amounts of important files like "word documents","jpegs" ,"mp3 and mp4" files and so on.

I could throw the "xp laptop" away any time but I am paranoid that the important files that I have saved on flashdrives and discs could be compromised or spread the problem to a new laptop.

Should I be paranoid about any file folders? or is it just the laptop itself messing up?
Does anyone have an idea of what could be going on?

Its counting the hidden files and folders in the property count. All you documents, pictures and music files should be in your user folder and won't be hidden. The hidden files are basically files required by the system to work properly and shouldn't be deleted. You can safely ignore the wrong count.
