Increasing monitor resolution...help

Hey guys,

I just brought in my 23" monitor to my office and hooked it up to my work computer. The resolution is pretty bad, I am still using a computer that runs at 1280x1084 maximum. I don't have admin privileges so I can really install anything.

The reason I have this monitor here now is because I am also bringing in my personal computer to my office, which of course has the proper resolution for the monitor, and I am using a KVM switcher to switch between computers.

Is there a way to get my work computer up to a better resolution without doing anything like installing a new video card, or updating the driver? I know I can't think of anything, but if you guys could that would be great. Thanks for your help.

Edit: I was thinking maybe like an external video card, that would plug in through USB, and not need admin privileges to install. Maybe something like this http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=JU-VG0012-S1-DT&cat=VCD but I do not know if it is plug and play or if you have to install software.

Thanks for the response. I am trying to keep the IT department out of it because they are remote and don't trust anyone to do anything with the computers. I am just trying to figure out if there is something I can do, without installing software. If not, then that is fine. Thanks again

If admin privileges are needed for almost everything you do on that system then its most likely you'll need the admin to change your setting. There is nothing else you can do. This is the whole reason network admins lock down systems is so they can't be touched and screwed up.
