infected with virus

Somebody I know has his computer infected with sometype of trojan virus inside the windows folder. I scanned it with AVG but it cannot do anything to it because it is in the archives.

The problem it is causing is the internet will freeze up. It will go to the homepage but will freeze. This is under the administrator but under the guest the internet works. I tried installing Spybot under guest but I have to be under the administrator to install it. How would I go about getting rid of the virus? I don't want to do a clean install unless absolutely necessary:(

It sounds like it's time for a Trend Micro "House Call". Before running the free online scan if problems come up at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Once you are at the link there go to the products and services page to look over the updated Antivirus plus Antispyware evaluation copy.

The shareware is a 30day trial version that will automatically remove AVG for the time being as it restarts the system to complete the install. But it rolls those items along with a personal firewall into one package. http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/tav/evaluate/trial.htm Once installed go to the first link for the free scan. You can post a HiJack This log later if you are still seeing further problems but... this catches quite a bit.
