Info about Norton 360

I use Norton 360 because it seems to work well. That doesn't mean I have a fondness for it. It has a feature called safe web, which is pretty reliable about rating links in a search as to their safety.

I have noticed, however, that when I search with Bing, Ixquick, Dogpile, or other such search engines, Norton puts no indicators like it does with Google, or Yahoo.

Trying to find out any info from Norton is, as usual, impossible. Any ideas as to why safe web does not work with these other search engines? I'm using Firefox 5.0 as my browser.

it isn't programmed to look at those sites since they tend to be less popular.

Definitely a minus for Norton. IxQuick promises to be the most anonymous server. I did get Bing to work, and I found it disturbing that Bing new all my previous searches from Google.

Not too surprising. Since Google is the engine that Microsoft is taking on with Bing, they probably coded the browser to read the cookies and temp files that are stored in your computer for the searches on Google.

It figures. What good alternatives are there? I'd pay to get rid of google. I need an internet email account, because I am moving, and won't have a good fixed home site for three months. Any ideas about which, if any, would be the best?
